Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mac65ddt.png

Bot message

Thanks for uploading Image:Mac65ddt.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:11, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Flag of Mercosur

Hi there! I hope you don't mind, but I've overwritten your Image:Flag of Mercosur.svg with the file obtained directly from the Mercosur website, as the Mercosur regulations specify that Gill Sans be used for the flag text. Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 01:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:PHP logo.svg

Bot message

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PHP logo.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Save-Me-Oprah (talk) 19:04, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.

Dear Mysid,

Please forward your email address and reply asap/immediately to Hollmarsh1@aol.com.

I found your improved drawing of the map of Biafra at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Biafra.svg while doing photo research for a textbook publisher on a project. I thought your image might be appropriate for inclusion in a literature curriculum.

I am specifically seeking to confirm that you are the creator of this improved illustration, based on the original work of Željko Heimer (who I am in touch with). I seek your permission to possibly publish it within the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License Version 1.2 and any other applicable laws.

With your permission, we will credit you for your work in the image's permanent description page. Please explicitly state the credit line you require, for example, Courtesy Mysid.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. We are in a hurry to confirm the images that will be used.

Thank you,

Chromosome images

Hello,

I noticed the chromosome ideogram images you have created, such as Image:Chromosome 2.svg. I just wanted to say that although the NIH website displays these ideograms sideways with the short arm (p) on the left and the long arm (q) to the right, it is almost universally accepted that when chromosome ideograms are displayed in a vertical manner, as you have done, the shorter (p) arm is at the top. I understand that the orientation of the text labels makes this impractical for these particular images, but this convention for displaying the p arm at the top is so well established that it is used as a standardisation to aid those who need to learn to recognise the banding patterns under the microscope. I cannot offer anything better, but I would suggest that maybe they should be displayed in a sideways orientation which at least avoids the up-side-down situation. The images make a great contribution to the chromosome articles. Jaypc (talk) 13:13, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction. I'll see what I can do about it ASAP! ›mysid () 13:15, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I've flipped all the chromosome images upside down now, as seen in the thumbnail on the right. I hope they are correct! By the way, I've left several chromosomes completely undrawn, for example Image:Chr-21.jpeg, because I didn't know what the dashed part is supposed to be. Would you happen to have any ideas as to how to depict it? Thanks. ›mysid () 08:32, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Topographic Maps: if need more...

Hello, I seen you Image:Topographic_map_of_Cape_Verde-en.svg, really nice. You say you made your maps following User:Bamse style.
I seen that Legend seems to follow Sting's conventions (the leader when we talk about SVG topographic maps on wikipedia), if you not yet did it, you can take a look at his gallery of upload and at his recent convention proposal : Image:Maps_template-fr.svg. This conventional colors, icons, fonts, are proposed to uniformize our maps. You can also look at Sémhur's gallery, he is more specialised into historico-topographic SVG maps. I also notice that User:JaneVannin plan to translate some Sting's SVG topographic tutorials.
We (mainly French and German wiki-cartographers) are also trying to set up global map convention, that's still really slow, but your advices are welcome : we need more advice to build a legitimate consensus. See: Commons_talk:Project_Mapmaking_Wiki_Standards. Euh... J'ai fais le tour de la question. Je te poste ca, a toi de voir ce qui te sera utile. Bonne route. Yug (talk) 10:35, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mysid, there seem to be a few extra methyl groups in this structure—see Image:Cefaclor.svg :) I've replaced it in the cefaclor article, but if you have time to fix your version, please do! Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:01, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction! Now that there is a correct version around, I think my version is really redundant. ›mysid () 10:55, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Image:Flag of NATO.svg

It seems you are the real creator and therefore the copyright owner for the image Image:Flag of NATO.svg. Why do you label it as Non-Free? The images at the NATO web site are poor quality bitmaps, not the SVG file you created from scratch. Perhaps you may give it a free license and add the {{Insignia}} template to cover possible restrictions of use. Sv1xv (talk) 08:25, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

There was a lengthy discussion about this. Some people claimed that NATO owns the copyright to the flag, and as my SVG is merely a derivative work of the bitmaps on their page, it can only be used under fair use. ›mysid () 20:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
I started a discussion on Wikimedia Commons about the subject Commons talk:Licensing. It seems some people on Commons get paranoid about copyright issues. I don't believe your SVG file is a copyright violation because it is original creative work from scratch (a compass sign, four arcs, four lines on a blue filed) and you don't use any elements from the bitmap. NATO's restrictions on the use of their flag is covered by "insignia". Sv1xv (talk) 05:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
It's great to see it's being discussed again... but I doubt it will reach a different conclusion. See Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Flag of NATO.svg. ›mysid () 20:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I am also disappointed with some copyrigt-related discussions on Commons. It seems that a bunch of elderly admins and users enjoy addopting extreme pro-copyright views and use them to abuse other users. I could name User:Superm401 and User:Rama as such. It seems they don't really care about the issue, they just try to score some points agains other users. Sv1xv (talk) 07:53, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

They seemed to be right on this matter, though. ›mysid () 19:06, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I still don't see it. I don't know how Commons is really run behind the scenes, but I am disappointed. Sv1xv (talk) 19:33, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

*Hi!*

Hey, the wonderful Genny has smiled at you! You lucky. Smiles promote WikiLove, may make your day and... remind that you should really check that inbox, every once in a while! :-)

Hello, I noticed that the structure you posted a few years ago isn't quite correct. The alkyl tail is suppose to be twelve carbon atoms long (not eleven). This since Laureth = lauryl ether and lauryl = dodecyl. Or you could just compare the molecular formula with the structure. Sorry to bother you, I would change it myself if I could but it appears I lack the authority do so since I'm not even an autoconfirmed user yet. Montargo (talk) 15:13, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Is this a combination of my Christmas greeting from 2006 and my New Year's greeting from last year? Why, it most certainly is! Hey, if it ain't broke...
