I'm OUT.

Good-bye Wikipaedia, you were nice while you lasted.

Today WF and the WM elite decided to punish international readers worldwide for something that some bad people are planning to do somewhere else. I see no purpose in spending any more effort or money on something that is so hostile to me and countless others like me who have been born non-American, i.e. second class citizens of the world.

An APPEAL to all non-American editors of Wikipedia: If you are not American (or Canadian, let's say), WF is not your friend, for them, you are just a tool and they don't care about you. This dream that they preach has proven to be a lie. Please give up editing, WF is using your time and talent and you get nothing out of it, you are being used!

If you are from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central or South America, South Asia, East Asia, even Western Europe, you don't matter. If you are just a reader or an occasional editro, you don't matter. If you can not in any way influence American public opinion, it doesn't matter. You will be punished nontheless for things you didn't do and have no control over.

We believed in this dream, sacrificed for it, but we've been fools. Joke's on us.

As a member of WM's elite smugly and uncivilly has put it to me, I will not let the door slam my ass on my way out. From now on I am just an opportunistic reader: no more edits, no more donations. I hope you will do the same, in protest to the stupidity of WF and the WM elite, who don't know who the enemies are. (i.e., WF and WM elite, your international readership is against SOPA but is powerless to do anything about it. You shouldn't punish your friends, this decision will come back to haunt you.)

The second class citizen of the world

EDIT: The behaviour of WF and the WM elite relating to this issue was a huge eye-opener, I think, for everyone. My trust, at least, in this wonderful project has been, I am afraid, quite permanently shaken and shattered. WM was not supposed to be run on votes, but on consensus. And especially not on the votes of such a small basis of WF elite, without notification to everyone of the discussion by banner prior to the decision, and not in a conversation so heavily moderated by WF.

Better late than never

Hello Omulurimaru! It seems you will probably never see this. However, I'll explain myself regardless. Because Wikipedia technically resides physically in the US, as its servers are in the US, it will be directly affected by SOPA and any similar acts of censorship. Thus, while you are entirely right that it is entirely unfair to you as you have no representation in American government, I supported the total blackout so that the world could see what could happen if SOPA were to pass. It wouldn't just affect Americans, Wikipedia would be changed for everyone in the world. But I did not support the blackout that out of some perverse desire to see everyone else get dragged down with me, I did it so that people around the world would see how directly affected they can be by things that go on here in the US, and then protest the US government to not pass SOPA like I did. It is unfortunate if by my actions I have caused the opposite of what I intended, but I do not apologize for my actions. The blame should go to the US government for even considering SOPA, and the responsibility was on all potential victims to fight against SOPA, whether American or not.
