I am not surprised to hear that additional information regarding Ryan/Sheehan/Sheahan has come to light since I created his page (which is now over eight years ago, apparently). At that time, I exchanged e-mails with Sean Forman about the matter, and the page was created based on that exchange. I would not be surprised if someone over at sabr.org (Peter Morris, if I had to guess -- I suspect the man's a wizard) or Retrosheet has dug up something new on the matter. In any case, do not feel as though you'd be stepping on my toes in changing the article to reflect such information. I appreciate your checking in with me, though! -Dewelar (talk) 21:41, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In order to change the name of the page, you'll need to move it. There should be a link (look for "Move this page") to do so. New editors can't move pages if they're protected, but that page shouldn't be. Let me know if there's a problem and I can do it for you. If I get the chance, I can also create the page for John Ryan, unless someone else beats me to it :) . -Dewelar (talk) 22:03, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved Sheahan's page, and made a few minor adjustments to it based on his bb-ref page. Also, I discovered that John Ryan does indeed have a page, located at John Ryan (pitcher), so I changed the redirect to point there. I think that takes care of things. And, since I haven't said so already, welcome to Wikipedia! -Dewelar (talk) 23:12, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually against Wikipedia guidelines to use initials to differentiate articles except under certain circumstances. That's why John A. Ryan is at John Ryan (pitcher), where a hypothetical article for John M. Ryan a/k/a Dan Sheahan would be located at John Ryan (outfielder). Perhaps a hatnote at the former directing users to the latter would suffice.
I too would be interested in the background of this situation. If you're so inclined, I would definitely direct you to either SABR (of which Mr. Nemec appears to be a member) or Retrosheet, or at the very least Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball, as someone there would certainly have more information than I. -Dewelar (talk) 00:07, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely an interesting article -- thanks for sharing! -Dewelar (talk) 06:07, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hans Langsdorff

[edit]

Hello Otrex, Please let me explain my action on the Hans Langsdorff's article. I've seen you removed a text with some sources and restored it at first since I thought it could be a vandalic deletion. Then I reread carefully your edit summary notes and checked the available sources. I concluded that my action was not fully appropriate and restored your version. I'm not introduced enough in the subject to have my own opinion but I considered your action sufficiently motivated. As concerns a possible page protection request, as per my experience, there is not enough vandalic activity to obtain such a measure, but if you notice that controversial edits continued, I would recommend to bring the issue to WP:RFC, where the subject is supposed to receive more attention and where you can add your comments and receive qualified suggestions. I will keep the page in my watchlist and I will be happy to try to assist you in the RfC procedure if necessary. Regards, --DoebLoggs (talk) 09:40, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you are in condition to present elements and sources confirming that a misrepresentation of facts is ongoing, I warmly suggest you to bring the issue to WP:ANI, I'm sure that with the careful explaination of the facts, your report will be carefully taken in account. Feel free to contact me in case more help is needed. Cheers, --DoebLoggs (talk) 10:32, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
