How to upload a picture...

[edit]

Hi, I'm glad you asked for help. Here's what to do.

1. Deal with copyright. You can only upload a picture that you took yourself, that you fully own, or that that you received written permission to use. Is your picture one of those? If not, for example if you just found a photo on the internet, unfortunately we can't use it.

2. Upload the image. If you own the photograph (or took it yourself), just go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/dddwiki/Commons:Upload and select the Upload Wizard. Follow the instructions there. If you received permission to use the photograph, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Upload. You'll have to also email permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

3. Place the file in an article. Once you have uploaded the file, go to the article where you'll be placing it, and use the following code: [[File:FILENAME|thumb|FILEDESCRIPTION]]. Replace the CAPITALIZED parts with the exact filename and a description of the image.

4. For more help, check Help:Images, the WP:Help desk, or http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=wikipedia-en-help for live help.

If you have any other questions, ask me on my talk page. Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 03:47, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
