Welcome to the AMA!

[edit]

Welcome to the AMA - it's good to have you onboard :-). As part of our plans to ensure that those requesting help get what they need, and to soften the learning curve, we ask new advocates, like yourself, to take an account in tandem with a more experienced Wikipedia advocate. This can help you to get a better understanding of policy and how to deal with the difficult people we sometimes have to deal with. When you're ready to take a case, will you let me know on my talk page, and I'll try to either find a case with an advocate willing to co-advocate with you, or you can choose a case, and I'll find another advocate to fit it (if this makes sense!). Best of luck, Martinp23 21:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To look for a co-advocate, I'd suggest you leave a messahe here - if you have no luck, leave me another message and I'll try to find an open case which you'll be able to take a look at. Martinp23 21:03, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advocate Request

[edit]

Hello,

I have been having an interesting discussion [[1]] regarding the article on Larry Pinkney. Essentially, myself and others have placed tags for NPOV, Wikify, Cleanup, Citation, etc. on the article, and I have added what I, personally, know regarding this individual - with links to sources - on the talk page. All tags have been removed by user 209.244.42.17 , and my own comments, as well as similar information made to the actual page by other users, has been condemned as libel. Editor 209.244.42.17 has refused to agree to mediation/arbitration.

This is a highly personal situation, as the man whom the article is about is someone who sexually assaulted a friend of mine (the only 'proof' of that I have is her word, the police report, and the circumstantial evidence, so I'm not trying to press for including that in the article) here at university last year. After she reported the incident to the school and the police, it also came to light that this person had been convicted of raping a previous student from our university, as well as another woman, 12 years before. The offender is on probation until 2009. A transcript of the Court of Appeals regarding the case can be found at [2] .

A comprehensive summary of the situation and history regarding this individual and my university can be found in the student newspaper's archives, [3] although navigation is a bit tricky. A keyword search for "Pinkney" should find the articles in question.

I have reason to believe, as has another editor commented, that user 209.244.42.17 is in fact the person about whom the article is written - Larry Pinkney - based on what has consistently been removed from the article, the writing style, the rhetoric used, and the personal attack that editor 209.244.42.17 has made on me in the discussion page. This, considering his history, is somewhat unsettling.

User 209.244.42.17 says that all allegations/convictions/news reports regarding sexual misconduct by Larry Pinkney are false and libelous, and are in fact the result of racism and the efforts of the FBI to discredit him as a black activist.

In your User Page, you cite experience in the Middle East, Sub-Continent, and the UK, and so with this international background, I thought you might be able to provide a neutral perspective that user 209.244.42.17 cannot automatically discount as racist or as otherwise partaking in the hegemonic repression of minority views.

To elaborate on "personal attack," I mean that this individual persisted in figuring out my real name and university in addition to the information provided on my User Page, posted all of this on the discussion page, and went on to declaim my hometown region as a 'well known' harbor of white supremicist groups, etc. etc., very pointedly using both my first and last name, which are not provided on my User Page (not in full) and feels quite a bit like a threat or scare tactic. Considering this a potential matter of personal safety, I HAVE notified the school administrator who was involved with the incident last year.

In sum, I would like to have the article on Larry Pinkney evaluated, and potentially rewritten, regarding POV and Citation/Verification (I think the general term is "Wikified"?), and to have the facts surrounding the convictions of sexual misconduct and the terms of his probation also supplied in the article, insofar as the available sources allow. I don't appreciate the conduct of user 209.244.42.17 towards myself, but so long as the article provides the appropriate information, and he discontinues the personal attacks, I don't really care whether he is allowed on Wikipedia or not. (well, I do, but I won't pursue it)

Thank you for taking the time to read my - overly long - explanation of this situation. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or support that you could provide.

Yours truly,

Devin

Proposed deletion of Business environment

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Business environment, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:NOTDICT

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:35, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
