I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Username violation

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, Qinetiq, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it it represents a company not an individual. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you.

Unambiguous use of a name or URL of a company, group or product as a username is not permitted. A username that is the name of a company or group implies the intent to promote this group. Accordingly, such usernames may be indefinitely blocked. Accounts that represent an entire group or company are not permitted no matter the name. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you.Clovis Sangrail (talk) 12:09, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a few moments to create a new account with a username that represents only you. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may ask for a review of this username block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}. Thank you. There are two issues here:

  • User name: Wikipedia accounts must represent individuals only; shared accounts are not permitted, nor are usernames that represent a group or company - see the WP:NOSHARE and WP:GROUPNAME sections of the Wikipedia:Username policy. If more than one member of your group wishes to edit, each must set up an individual account.
  • Conflict of interest: you have very properly declared your interest, and if you set up an individual account to edit on behalf of Qinetiq you should do so again. You should also read and carefully observe these guidelines:
In general it will be best for you to suggest a change you would like to see on an article talk page, declaring your interest, rather than edit an article directly.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Unblocked

[edit]

I have unblocked this account to allow you to apply for a change of username at WP:CHU, if you have not had a response to your other request. The autoblock on the IP should also be released, allowing your colleagues to register accounts; if they have any problem, they can use the form at WP:ACC.

Please ask them to read the links above. (The links in the Welcome paragraph at the top of the page are useful, too) You will understand that the great danger for an anyone-can-edit encyclopedia is that it will be used by those wishing to advertise themselves or push a point of view; Wikipedia is extremely sensitive to this danger, hence our strong rules on COI. If you or your colleagues, when editing on behalf of Qinetiq, declare your interest up front and observe those rules, you should find people very willing to help. You may not achieve exactly what you want - changes are made by WP:Consensus, and failing that by following the WP:Dispute resolution process - but you should be able to achieve a satisfactory resolution, though the response may not always be as rapid as you might wish, since everyone here is a volunteer (and many of them actually have some other life left!) One way to get a response is to put {{helpme}} (two curly bracket each side) at the bottom of your talk page, with a question below it.
