Small note

[edit]

Hi! Just a note that the article you selected nutrilite has been tagged by another Wikipedian as potentially having issues with "notability." Please check the general notability guidelines to verify that there the topic itself has substantial coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. If you think the topic might not be notable according to WP's standards, that might be a reason to chose another topic. If you are pretty confident that it is notable and that you can show it by adding good third-party refs from reliable sources, full steam ahead! —mako 17:03, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Professor Hill,
Thank you for letting me know. I have also been reminded by the administrator of the difficulty about such a topic, and plan to change. Samoyedweixuan (talk) 21:47, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Samoyedweixuan, I'm MrOllie. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently made additions to one or more articles without citing a reliable source. Please note that all content and edits on Wikipedia are expected to be verifiable in reliable sources. In articles related to medical topics, the standard for content and sourcing is defined at WP:MEDRS, and in your edit you did not include any references that meet that ideal. Please have a look at MEDRS to learn about the quality standards for medical sourcing. You might also want to take a look at WikiProject Medicine. If you have any questions related to sourcing of medical issues, you can ask at the WikiProject Medicine Talk page. For general questions about sourcing, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Hi MrOllie, thank you for your reminder. Could you specify which claim it is that I did not add reliable source on? Samoyedweixuan (talk) 21:29, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The claims about the product increasing nutrient levels. WP:MEDRS is a very high bar, many peer-reviewed articles do not meet it. Also, you added some text talking about leveraging personal relationships and networks, which is marketing buzzwords - that style of writing is to be avoided. It was cited to a thesis. Theses are considered to be self published sources and generally should be avoided as well. If you can, I would highly recommend switching topics to something which does not touch on biomedical claims like this nutritional supplement. The special sourcing requirements for such articles are difficult to meet, and as a student editor you are making things much more difficult for yourself. MrOllie (talk) 21:39, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for letting me know. Do you think the article Nanjing South Railway Station (Also a stub article) is something that would be easier to work on? It is on my list as well. Samoyedweixuan (talk) 21:45, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that one would be much easier. If you choose that one, you could also have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains, Wikipedia has a large and active collection of train enthusiasts who work on those sorts of articles. MrOllie (talk) 21:52, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will. Just one more question. For the railway station, could I cite the official website as one of the sources in terms of the operating hours & Lines? Samoyedweixuan (talk) 21:56, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, per WP:ABOUTSELF official websites can be used for uncontroversial information like that. MrOllie (talk) 21:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your patience and explanation! I will take those into consideration. Samoyedweixuan (talk) 22:26, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MrOllie: Thank you for being so patient with Samoyedweixuan who is very new to Wikipedia! I'm the instructor for the course, so I'll jump in here as well. I agree completely with MrOllie that it's to avoid anything related to medical stuff on Wikipedia until you've learned the ropes. I think that Nanjing South Railway Station could definitely work. The article is already pretty decent (at least for a stub) so it might be a little harder to improve than a similar article that was very short, but I think you can definitely work on it. It will be important that you find additional reliable sources though. If you don't think you can do that with Nanjing South Railway Station, I would pick a different article. I'm happy to talk to you 1-on-1 if it's helpful to evaluate articles together. —mako 06:52, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
