Anatomy

[edit]

You want to get rid of eponyms? Start a discussion at WT:ANAT. For now, Iztwoz has done a rvt on your edits. And I've done a rvt on your edits at two pages. GBFEE (talk) 20:09, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello -- not sure why this is a controversial edit... the eponyms are not the official names of these structures. I don't suggest removing them completely, just having the proper anatomical term appear before reference to an eponym (which has no anatomical relevance). I have left a message in WT:ANAT... I'm relatively new to Wikipedia editing... who gets final say? Seanmcwatt (talk) 20:53, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's a matter of WP:MOS - where there is a commonly known and used name - that will be the generally agreed page name; searches on nGrams and Google will usually show the favour for the commonly known name which may or may not be the more technical term. Wikipedia is for a general readership, and technically correct terms of anatomy and medicine are not always the well-known and well-used names or terms that will be searched for by a general reader. The usual formatting or styling uses the page name as the first reference - to change that format needs the page name to be changed. This can sometimes be done without discussion if the usage is absolutely clear; though mostly a page name change needs to be proposed and reasoned for on the talk page where it remains open for discussion.
