Discussion of Template:Imperial_College_London

[edit]

Administratively the Centres and Institutes are different. There are six global challenge institutes at Imperial College London [1] which are set up to address challenges across the Faculties. The Centres are established within individual faculties. This makes your reversion of the template is administratively incorrect. If you have a moment, there are other issues in the template though - such as the Department of Physics and not Blackett. BenBritton (talk) 08:17, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

BenBritton – A navbox doesn't need to split up things exactly into specific groups - it's not an article giving you accurate and precise information, rather a Wikipedia guide for the information about the college. For example, in earlier versions it merged the groups of department and centres, which were split when the college had enough departments to justify having their own grouping. The difference between centres and other kinds of institutes I would argue most readers would not find helpful when looking for an article. If they grew long enough that you had to trawl through both, I doubt a reader would be helped by not finding an article in one of the lists, not being sure which list to check. Also, the use of the Blackett Laboratory is what the article is named, and often what the physics department is known as[2] (although technically yes, it's the laboratory and building name) Shadowssettle(talk) 18:32, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

University of Durham vs Durham University

[edit]

Hello, You suggested I start a talk about this topic. The legal name for the University is 'University of Durham'[1]. Whilst I agree that the title of the page should be 'Durham University', the side information box of the page should be titled after the official name. Durham University is simply a trading name. It is not the historically correct or legally correct name. I keep making the changes because they are well informed and you are changing it back without a valid reason against the use of the official name. I feel like my reason for changing is valid and if we can reach a compromise on this that would good. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.234.0.27 (talk) 00:22, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please bring this up on Talk:Durham University. This is not just my views, but WP:UNI general policy, so it would be more appropriate to discuss this with the general community of editors of that page. I am also not reverting it because I disagree, but rather because going wildly against a built consensus is not constructive editing, which is why it keeps getting reverted. According to WP:Deletion Policy, once a proposed deletion tag is removed by any editor for any reason, it may not be restored. I have removed the WP:PROD request on University of Copenhagen Center for Planetary Research. The way to proceed if you still wish to delete the article is to through WP:AFD; if you do this , be aware of WP:BEFORE. But consider a possible merge into Danish Space Research Institute or Niels Bohr Institute, See WP:Deletion Policy for alternatives to deletion. DGG ( talk ) 16:21, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

An article you recently created, Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, does not have enough citations to independent, significant coverage to remain published. While it includes many citations, none of the independent sources appear to include significant coverage of the subject (that is to say, one or more paragraphs devoting significant attention to the Faculty of Medicine). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. signed, Rosguill talk 22:23, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Imperial College Central Library

[edit]

On 3 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Imperial College Central Library, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the recreational reading collection at Imperial College London's Central Library was started from books accumulated in student halls? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Imperial College Central Library. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Imperial College Central Library), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Category:Durham University stubs

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you re-created Category:Durham_University_stubs. This was previously merged, see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_June_30#Category:Durham_University_stubs. A stub category is generally only created or kept when there are 60 or more members. I have therefore reverted your change to the template.

No offence intended. Thanks for participating here; I hope you continue to enjoy it! – Fayenatic London 21:18, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Buchs (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Academic Boosterism

[edit]

Dear Shadowssettle, I recently tried to implement the WP:HED project-wide RfC close consensus to the article about the Central European University (CEU). And see where it got me....

Can you help? Otherwise, boosterism will prevail.

Kind regards, Cambridge51 (talk) 22:10, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cambridge51: Unfortunately, that RfC is under reconsideration after the close was later overturned at WP:AN. Feel free to contribute to the reopened RfC at WT:HED. However, you're right in that the placement and content as such is problematic outside of the RfC, so some clean-up is a good idea. Shadowssettle Need a word? 09:33, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the notification, and for taking care of this! (The neutrality concerns on the CEU Talk Page reach back to 2009; see also here, Jan 2020. Seems to be an illustrative example.) All the best, Cambridge51 (talk) 10:03, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Why was it WP: Soapbox that I included Fall Guys a game that was promote in 2020 in 2020s, It wasn't bad or my opion it was just as good as Among Us so why did u revert the changes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LittleMAHER1 (talkcontribs) 00:29, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@LittleMAHER1: Please leave a signature in the future when you use a talk page using four tildes: ~~~~. It seemed like you were trying to advertise the game, as you provided no citations for your claim. However, there is a dearth of citations on that article anyway, so I have left it up to the other editors and yourself to sort out. Shadowssettle Need a word? 19:25, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arms of the University of Warwick

[edit]

Hey Shadowssettle,

Can I please ask that you do not reinstate your version of Warwick's arms again? I apologise if that sounds rude. (I really don't mean to be. Heraldry and the university are just dear to my heart.)

The version you have made is unfortunately not very heraldic or internally consistent. Specifically: mantling should not be used without a helm; and, the charges of the shield, eg. the elephant, the bear, and the double helix, are all of inconsistent artistic styles.

I've seen your other heraldic work, and they look quite decent. So it just breaks my heart that Warwick's one was not as good.

The version a friend of mine recently uploaded now is painted by the College of Arms' own painter. In absence of a perfect vector graphic, can this one stay until a new one is created?

(I apologise again for any offence caused). — Preceding unsigned comment added by HKA15 (talkcontribs) 21:39, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
