Source information needed for File:Abhinandana.jpg

[edit]

Hello, Sumanch!

It was really helpful of you to upload File:Abhinandana.jpg. However, in order to keep and use new images, we need to know their original source.

If you can edit the description page and add this information, that would be great. If you're not sure how or need help, please ask at the media copyright questions page and we'll be happy to assist you.

Thanks again! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:06, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Be attentive

[edit]

Before saying a biography is about a living person, pay attention to the dates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Abdulla_Qahhor). Abdulla Qahhor died in 1968 and can't be a living person.Nataev (talk) 08:43, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I copied the template form another article. I did not realize the living tag was checked. Sumanch (talk) 08:48, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Space Ghost Coast to Coast

[edit]

Thank for the Welcome message you left on my Talk page; I have been editing Wiklipedia for over 4½ years. What do you object to in my edits to Talk:Space Ghost Coast to Coast; please be more specific other than "vandalism". Please respond here. HairyWombat 05:23, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry I reverted your edit as vandalism. However, at that time it did appear like some one had pasted over someone else's comments. Please accept my appologies. Sumanch (talk) 05:39, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted. Thank you for restoring my edit. HairyWombat 05:52, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My "vandalism"

[edit]

Hi! You reverted as vandalism my removal from Baume et Mercier of a passage that has been flagged as unsourced since 2008, and which claimed that a watch had been tested on a car made 6 years after the watch. I would be grateful for an apology or explanation on my talk page. Cheers! 93.96.148.42 (talk) 20:41, 5 February 2012 (UTC) Dear Sumanch, Thank you for your explanation. I would like to request an apology for the text you posted on my page, which refers to unconstructive edits, not edit summaries. If you looked at the edit, saw that the text had been unsourced for 4 years, but decided it needed to stay, I withdraw my request.93.96.148.42 (talk) 01:11, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The target still exists

[edit]

We do not delete redirects under G8 unless they're redirects to pages that never existed or that have been deleted, so these redirects aren't good candidates: for example, File:Trans-Asia ship.JPG shouldn't be deleted because File:Trans-Asia ship — MV Trans-Asia 3.jpg still exists. I understand that pages can qualify for speedy deletion for other reasons, but none of the other reasons were applicable: in particular, R3 (recently created and implausible) is often attempted in these situations, but it doesn't apply because the titles themselves are sufficiently old; for example, File:Trans-Asia ship.JPG has been a blue link for over a year and a half — when a page of any sort is moved, the important thing when determining recent or non-recent is when the link became blue, not when the page received its new title. Tachyon name - again

[edit]

Hi Sumanch, it turns out that wiki's policy for article names isn't just "the most common name, full stop". In fact, the policy seems to explicitly forbid any article name that is used with a different meaning in reliable sources. But that's certainly the situation with Tachyon. If you're interested, would you mind joining the discussion here? Thanks. Waleswatcher (talk) 12:56, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:NeonChrist.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:NeonChrist.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 05:21, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of poster image for Whole Lotta Sole

[edit]

Re: [speedy deletion of pdf poster]

Hi Sumanch - thanks for the note. The current poster image was already in a PDF format and I checked that this file option was permissable before uploading it to add to the film's page. I had previously uploaded a much smaller version (a .jpg, which has since been deleted) of the poster but the picture quality was very poor and the text was unreadable, especially if someone clicked on the image to look at it, so I asked the people involved with the film if they could send me a slightly higher resolution version and that's what I've uploaded. CSD F9 declined on File:Robyn Maher.jpg

[edit]

Hi there, I just wanted to drop a note and let you know that I declined your CSD request for File:Robyn Maher.jpg because it did have a tag that OTRS permission was pending, so it didn't meet the F9 criteria. I did tag it for dated F11 deletion though, since the permission never actually got posted. —Darkwind (talk) 06:58, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I had requested a CSD because the image is from Atlanta Olympics of 1996. All official media of Olympics are copyrighted and Atlanta USA 1996 in conjunction with Basketball Australia hold all rights. Therefore CSD F9 applies. Thanks. Sumanch (talk) 07:36, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable, but unfortunately we can't assume that the uploader didn't somehow get the US Olympic Committee or the Atlanta Committee to release permission with a compatible license, since the uploader did tag the image as licensing being submitted. The tag constitutes plausible claim of permission, so F9 doesn't apply, even if it seems unlikely that permission was actually obtained -- and we can't delete under F11 until 7 days after we specifically tell the uploader that permission is still missing. The good news is, it will probably be gone in 7 days anyway, as I'm assuming there wasn't actually permission obtained. —Darkwind (talk) 07:46, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have found the OTRS ticket regarding this, and have removed the F11 tag for now. I will see if sufficient permission can be confirmed to keep the image. If not, I'll retag / delete the image. KTC (talk) 11:29, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Slacker screen.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Slacker screen.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Please stop uploading files

[edit]

Your page is full of fair use files that have been deleted or nominated for deletion. I definitely think that there's something about this process that you're not understanding. At this point, it's becoming a drain on other people's resources to have to review every upload you make and then tag them for deletion. I recommend you inquire at the WP:Help desk or ask for help on one of the pages about image policy to find out how to meet our fairly strict Fair Use rules. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:41, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Qwyrxian, I wanted to thank you for letting me know your concerns regarding my uploads. Majority of the fair use files that I have uploaded are part of a backlog cleanup last year. I believe the resize function has been taken over by a bot. Some of these these files become orphan and get deleted. So, if you had reviewed the file history properly, this issue would have come to your attention. I believe Skier Dude, GB fan, Malik Shabazz... are some of the admins who tag the 'non-free reduce' files.
So, to clarify -
  • Do I understand fair use process? Yes
  • Will I stop uploading files? No
Contributing to Wikipedia is a drain on people's resources, just like resizing 1500 images manually was to mine. Likewise, you have the responsibility to escalate an incident after thorough investigation.
So, I wanted to thank you again. Since, my images have come to your attention, from now on, please look in the image history to see if it was resized.

File permission problem with File:Karam Singh.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Karam Singh.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:39, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Lana Shields 1979.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Lana Shields 1979.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 20:03, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 20:03, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
