Response: My Chemical Romance revert

[edit]

Sorry I forgot to explain myself. The original reason why I reverted your edit was because I thought the source said something like "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was one of the albums that launched the emo genre into the mainstream," instead of emo pop. I thought this because it has always said that in the MCR article and I did not add the statement, nor the source. After reverting your edit, I read the article a couple times and I could not find this exact statement. I might be wrong but all I can find is this: "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, the major label debut that rocketed the band to MTV fame and platinum sales." Despite that if you look at the article for Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge it is not described as emo pop. It is described as pop punk and emo but just because an album is pop punk and emo does not automatically mean it is emo pop. I hope this clears things up and sorry for the confusion. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. If I'm not quite ready for that Proto-metal article, I'd like to nonetheless show my particular appreciation for your efforts. Garagepunk66 (talk) 01:27, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

December 2017

Information icon Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to K.Flay, without providing a source or establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Please don't add your interpretation of what an artist is without sourcing it or getting consensus first. "Indie" is a genre; see indie rock, which it usually refers to. Same with alternative rock, which was what was linked to. Ss112 05:00, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ss112: If I may ask, can I change indie to indie rock? Indie is too vague to be put in the infobox; it's kind of like putting "art" as a genre instead of say art rock or art pop. SuperLuigi22 (talk|contribs) 05:58, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If it's not supported by a source, then it would be WP:OR. Ss112 07:18, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trial by Fire (Yelawolf album)

[edit]

I get what you mean on this article (I don't really know how it ended up on my watchlist), but many music editors have raised in other discussions of genres that when a publication is saying "x-infused y", it's not the same as saying "x y", which can often mean a different thing entirely. For instance, compare a publication saying "pop-infused rock" with "pop rock". Pop rock may lean more towards pop whereas pop-infused rock means a basis in rock with an influence of pop. In this case, "country-infused rap" does not mean exactly country rap, otherwise I assume a publication would say "country rap". I see both sides but then you also left out "blues-rock" when this is described first and on an equal footing with "country-infused rap". There's a lot of contention around genre, but it's best to work off precedent in these cases. Ss112 10:00, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ss112: Alright, thanks for the explanation! Can we maybe mention in the article body about the country influences?
Sure, that would be fine to put in the article's body. Ss112 23:01, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1

[edit]

If I had only read the beginning of the Pitchfork article, how would I have quoted "Elsewhere, they say "skeptics see him as proof of emoness invading hip hop". Never is the album described as "this is emo hip hop"." in my summary yesterday? That's further down the Pitchfork article. Nowhere in that Pitchfork article is Come Over When You're Sober described as "emo hip hop". The part you're talking about, at the end, says: "Peep isn't as expressive as his emo ancestors, and he isn't as eloquent as his rap idols, but he does effectively bring their stylings together in a provocative new way that riles up the purists in both genres." That's talking about what Lil Peep does, not the album. Besides, that would be "emo rap", not "emo hip hop". You can't just assume someone means hip hop "because rap isn't a genre". Also, an emo hip hop artist could make a pop album. It doesn't automatically mean because you are known as working in that genre everything you do (or did) will be (or was). You are again picking and choosing select parts of a whole sentence to fit the definition of what you think it is, like you did at the above Yelawolf album. We would need a description saying the words "emo rap" explicitly referring to what happens on the album, not the artist, not what you want to take out of a sentence (and I certainly hope you don't think "amping emotive riffs with the slap of rap drums" means "emo rap"). Take it to the talk page, per WP:BRD. Thanks. Ss112 07:44, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Has been reverted. Please read MOS:CT: we don't capitalise the "w" in "with". Also, please stop changing genres without sourcing them, even if the genres already there are not sourced. Two unsourced genre changes don't make a right. Ss112 02:18, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dungeon synth

[edit]

When you created the page for it, you said that Dungeon synth is a genre of black metal. Could you give me some sources? 2601:C7:C201:C640:F18D:AB0E:7875:86CF (talk) 17:21, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
