Categorization of Cities and towns in Kerala

Now that categorization of villages are complete, I thought I will do the cities and towns. But there also, quite a few duplicates are there, where the duplicates are classified as villages, like Peermade and Peerumed. Also, I doubt if the ones classified as cities and towns are really cities and towns. Shall I go ahead with district-wise classification, assuming that they are really cities and towns? Paalappoo (talk) 12:30, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

That is one thing that I have been also thinking about. The WP usual way was to group "Cities and towns" together and villages seprately. But the case should be different in India related settlements because "towns and villages" are more closely connected. I am thinking of raising this at WT:INDIA to see what others think of this. Therefore I suggest you may not proceed with the decategoirsation of the "Cities and Towns" as of now. If you are interested, you may decategorise villages of other states. You may need to create categories of many of the districts of other states like I have done for all districts of Kerala and Karnataka till now.

And for duplicate articles, I suggest you may merge them to most common name/spelling if you think they are about the same place. For other articles, use {{Mergeto}} and {{mergefrom}} templates to propose them for further opinions. All the best -- Tinu Cherian - 12:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

OK... Thanks! Paalappoo (talk) 12:50, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi! You've tagged talk:Poojary as WPBiography but the article is about an ethnic group rather than a single person. In best Microsft (R) tradition I'm tempted to ask: "Are you sure?" -- Timberframe (talk) 14:14, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : Issue XXXVIII (April 2009)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue XXXVIII (April 2009)
From the coordinators

Once again, this month, we have a bumper crop of featured and A-class content, and our heartfelt thanks go to editors who have worked so hard to write these. But with our growth in quality content comes increased demand for reviewers. Which is where you can help.

Reviewing is easy and rewarding. You don't need any prior experience and you don't need to write a full review. Any input is helpful so you initially can just comment on what you're comfortable with. Most reviewers start off by focusing one or two things – say, the historical context, or the text, or the references, or the layout, or the images – and as they gain experience, they broaden the scope of the review. You can easily keep up to date with which articles need review, by copying this text – {{WPMILHIST Review alerts}} – to your userpage or talkpage. Thanks in anticipation,  Roger Davies

I should have noticed that myself, shouldn't I? Well, it is traditional to do some review of someone's efforts in the past year at such times. And, guess what, I finally found the Christianity project's barnstar. It looks like this:

The Christianity Barnstar
To Tinucherian, for his excellent work as one of the first coordinators for the WikiProject Christianity. It's hard to describe how much of a benefit to the project you have been, but I think everyone would agree that you have more than deserved this token of our respect and thanks. John Carter (talk) 17:05, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks John, it was very sweet of you. I am just following the steps of leaders like you who have virtually built this project -- Tinu Cherian - 17:07, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Tagging of WP Biography

I noticed you tagging Hindu deities with WP Biography. I felt this is inappropriate as WP Biography focusses on real people, not divine, mythological beings. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:24, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

For some reason, I felt they should be included. If you feel it is inappropriate, you may remove them or I can do that -- Tinu Cherian - 06:31, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I will remove all those I see in my watchlist. The rest can be done by you. Thanks.--Redtigerxyz Talk 06:44, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

OK. But I suggest not to rem them for sages and saints -- Tinu Cherian - 06:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Sages and saints need Biography. True. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:48, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 08:50, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Please check Andauor. I think it was meant to be Andalur. Can Andauor be removed? Paalappoo (talk) 12:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

mass tagging

You added WP:BIO templates to lots of articles that are clearly not WP:BIO articles. Please don't do that. --dab (𒁳) 18:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

A suggestion

Would you mind having a quick word with User:Paalappoo about good style guidelines for articles: heading capitalisation, substing PAGENAME, using {{convert}} where appropriate, etc.? I see a chance to easily improve the quality of lots of Indian stubs if the guy classifying them also tidies them up a little. Cheers, - Jarry1250 (t, c) 19:12, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Requesting the delivery of Template:WikiProject Christianity/Outreach/May 2009. As indicated therein, I'm working on generating a list of articles to be featured on each Christianity related portal, so that we don't have too much overlap and that as many GA and higher articles get included in a portal. I'm not quite done, but it is my intention that any people actively invovled in any of those portals have a chance to weigh in. The so far incomplete beginnings of the list can be found at User:John Carter/Christianity portals. Feel free to make any comments that come to mind. Thanks again. WP Pakistan

Hi Tinu, Can you do me a favour? Apparently, there is something wrong with the WP Pakistan template. Whenever I add a Pakistani "Category" under the scope of WikiProject Pakistan (On the category talk page of course), it comes up with a section asking for rating on the importance scale.....this is not right because Category-class articles do not require any rating. Can you please fix this up somehow or get some else to do it..I'll really appreciate. Thanks.....124.177.122.229 (talk) 11:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I cud have helped but {{WP Pakistan}} is admin protected ( I'm not an admin :( ) for edits. Can you place a request at Template talk:WP Pakistan asking to disable importance scale for category and template classes. For references they can see how it is implemented in {{WP India}}. -- Tinu Cherian - 12:30, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your undeserved kindness

Thank you for the barnstar that you gave me last December. I can only assume that the gift was in gratitude for my long absence from Wikipedia.
