Speedy deletion declined: File:Markos-koumaris.jpg

Hello Train2104. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of File:Markos-koumaris.jpg, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Permission has been received. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Please explain your reasoning, as I don't understand. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:34, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

I've changed your tag. It's definitely not nonsense - it's not a bad bit of advice. What it doesn't do is relate to the title, so I've retagged it A1 context. Nonsense is for stuff like 'urxytrtcuyiurfd hhjghgfhg' (so long as you're sure it isn't in Foreign of some sort), or 'hindmost forward ham and carrots bluely from exegesis' (stuff that would be rejected by a Surrealist poetry group...). It's rare, which probably explains why people get it wrong. (Interesting - my spellchecker accepted 'bluely' but not 'spellchecker'.) Beware of lists without proper spacing between lines, as well. Tagging as now commons

Hi. When tagging images that are deleteable as F8, please consider using {{NowCommons}}, as it helps us administrators to delete them in the most expedient fashion. Magog the Ogre (tc) 18:53, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

I thought that NowCommons meant a review is still needed and once a user reviewed them they are to be tagged with {{db-f8}}... Won't convert next time. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 18:55, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
Or you could just add the db-f8 tag while leaving the other one; this will make them show up at CAT:CSD instead of appearing only in a subcategory. Nyttend (talk) 16:36, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

  • I'm bringing this to a formal AfD because it's sort of a tricky situation. He's not a hoax, but I'm fairly positive he's not notable. I've detailed this a bit more in-depth on the AfD, but the short of it is that he's an heir to a Sultanate that hasn't been formally recognized since the 1980s, which means that regardless of how legitimate his birthright or claim might be under other circumstances, everyone that currently calls themselves the Sultan or heirs to the Sultanate are seen as pretenders for the most part. I thought you might want to throw your two cents in as far as this goes.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 06:54, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Whoa Nellie!

I think it might be good if you slow down a bit. For images such as File:The Mark of the Hawk 1957 poster.jpg, even "The poster art can or could be obtained from the distributor."; a similar tag would have been applicable for this. Slowing down will also help reduce mistakes like at File:Gigi Parrish and Lon Chaney Jr., in Girl o' My Dreams (1934).jpg — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:02, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

I reverted the tags. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 22:39, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Re: File source problem with File:Giusepp Fava.jpg

Hi, thanks for contacting me about this. It seems that the website this was taken from does not exist anymore. I cannot find it, check http://www.google.com/search?q=giuseppe+fava. The image is widely used however, as you can see in the link. Fava was shot and killed by the Mafia, and this seems to be one of the iconic images used to commemorate his courageous fight against the Mafia. In that sense it would be a loss to delete the image. What to do? Maybe you have some suggestion as you seem to be the expert on these matters. - DonCalo (talk) 20:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

C1

I know you said not to leave you a notice if we're declining a C1, but iI think you may be tagging pages for speedy without looking if there are articles to fill them. (as for C:Libraries in Kent ) I'm doing a group now that I spotted as certainly having articles, and it's work I shouldn't have to do--the person who speedy tags a page should be responsible for checking. Perhaps you can explain to me the basis for what you tag, because if it is purely mechanical, I am going to ask WT:CSD to remove the C1 category and send them all to /CfD where people can look at them. DGG ( talk ) 05:39, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

C1 says "Unpopulated categories that have been unpopulated for at least four days. This does not apply to disambiguation categories, category redirects, featured topics categories, categories under discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion (or other such discussions), or project categories that by their nature may become empty on occasion". I'm using the empty categories database report, not tagging categories that are specifically excluded by the rule as well as anything created within the past week. I don't see any rule that I"m violating here, but if you want to bring changing the rule up to discussion that's up to you. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 14:40, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Of course you're not violating any rule here, except the general one that deletion is the last resort. if a category can be easily populated from the existing articles, then there was another resort. DGG ( talk ) 18:24, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

PD-simple, PD-ineligible

PD tags like PD-text, PD-chem, PD-shape, etc. do not need authorship information, as they are ineligible for copyright and in the public domain by default. Please actually read the copyright tag before doing a drive-by {{di-no source}} where it is not applicable. VanIsaacWS Vexcontribs 05:40, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for telling me. I was under the impression that a source was necessary for all files, regardless of license tag. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 22:39, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Not that it's not a good idea. If the ineligible criteria were to be contested, then authorship information would become necessary. But authorship really only matters when the work is being released as PD, but could have been claimed as a non-public domain creative work, so that the validity of the release can be confirmed at a later date. Since simple text, chemical diagrams, shapes, etc. are never eligible for copyright claim, you don't need to see who it was that released the work into the public domain and whether they were authorised to do so: the form of the work is the only relevant fact. Hey Train2104; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. Info about the "Old orphaned XfD" report

I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of database reports, but I'm interested in making sure all the old XfDs are taken care of. Is this something you can assist with? :) :) ·Salvidrim!·  17:30, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

What kind of assistance do you need? (I'm not an admin) — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Dunno, how is that report generated, automatically? I'd like to be able to "keep tabs" on the thing. :) :) ·Salvidrim!·  22:03, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
This page is auto-generated. According to the list its scheduled to update weekly but in practice it sometimes goes a few weeks between updates. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 22:06, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks for substing all those templates, I'll keep that in mind next time around. The AfD tool doesn't subst them; is there some guideline saying it should? Please point me to it and I'll try to get that fixed. :) ·Salvidrim!·  01:18, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Category deletion

When I created Category:Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating a citation from The American Cyclopaedia with no wstitle or title parameter it was clearly a cut and past error. But before putting it up for deletion why did you not inform me so that I could correct the mistake?

If you had looked at its parent: Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating a citation from The American Cyclopaedia you would have seen that it is one of a number of hidden categories which are used to monitor the parameters of {{Cite AmCyc}} and {{AmCyc}}. Removing such templates without editing the template so that it can not populate the category in the future, will, if populated in the future, case this maintaince template to appear in article space, which would be an undesired outcome. -- PBS (talk) 09:27, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

I work en-masse from a database report, and since double namespace prefixes are obviously typing errors and I think the category was empty I just tagged it at first glance. Sorry that I didn't investigate further. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 02:45, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
In future, so that this type of initial error can be fixed quickly, please see if the misspelt category contains a translucent to {{hiddencat}} or similar and if it does first notify the creator of the category that there is a problem. -- PBS (talk) 15:29, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
In principle, unless there is evidently no reason to, I find it is always a good thing to notify the editor involved; that, or just move double-mainspace pages to their simple-namespace equivalent. :) ·Salvidrim!·  01:20, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

CSD C1

I removed the tag for WP:CSD#C1 you placed on Category:Musical groups established in the 1858 because I had very recently emptied the category. You politely reverted me. I checked and, although the CSD wording and background is not at all clear, I think you were correct. However, the category has now been deleted on 23 June here even though I only emptied it on the 20 June, here. Do you know what has gone wrong? Obviously the category should be deleted but I am wondering about the principle. Thincat (talk) 22:54, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

I've never seen this before...could it be the fact that I reverted vs. readding the tag caused problems? Or when I first placed the tag the category wasn't empty? I don't know. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 23:00, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I'll look into it more. Yes, perhaps the reversions mixed things up. The category was empty when you placed the tag (it would have been crazy if someone had put another article there after I'd emptied it and before you tagged it). As well as emptying it I edited the category itself to remove a navigation template. That put it on my watchlist which is the only reason I noticed all this. Thincat (talk) 07:46, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Category:Violin makers

Category:Violin makers was not really empty when you tagged it. It had been vandalized and was a category redirect so it was expected to not have any content. You probably need to look at the recent change history to see if something weird occurred. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:48, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

List of NCAA Division I non-football programs

There are 3 distinct subdivisions of NCAA Division I sports programs: Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and Division I non-football schools. The List of NCAA Division I FBS football programs and the List of NCAA Division I FCS football programs already existed, so I created the List of NCAA Division I non-football programs to fill in the gaps. If you feel that you are justified in recommending the one for speedy deletion, then you should do so for them all. GWFrog (talk) 22:24, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I deleted the talk page, not the article itself. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 22:28, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Cape Cod Canal rail bridge question

How does the sentence you removed contradict the statement in the Arthur Kill Vertical Lift Bridge article? The statement says it's one of the few bridges that does this. The Arthur Kill bridge article says nothing about being the only one or whatever. So what is the contradiction? - Denimadept (talk) 07:18, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

"The bridge is normally kept in the raised position, lowering to allow the passage of trains." Both bridges are usually kept in the raised position. If you want to restore the sentence, I have no objections. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 13:15, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Metrolink monthly pass 200909.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 15:55, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Empty categories

Hi Train2014,

I have undone your edits to the various former categories of Euphorbiaceae (Category:Acidocroton‎ et al.) for a couple of reasons. Firstly, CSD C1 does not yet apply, because it has not been four days since they were emptied. Secondly, the instructions in the notice you left behind ({{db-c1}}) invites editors to repopulate the categories, which would be a terrible outcome. I spent some time recategorising the various Euphorbiaceae articles to use sensible, meaningful categories, rather than these categories created by a dumb bot; I have all the empty categories on my watchlist, and as soon as CSD C1 applies (Saturday morning local time), I will be deleting them all. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:50, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

I think you have a bit of a misunderstanding: {{db-c1}} does not put the category into the list of things eligible for speedy deletion until it's tagged. My edit starts the 4 day counter, not ends it. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 12:19, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

No, the criteria apply regardless of the tagging. The clock started ticking when the categories were first emptied. --Stemonitis (talk) 13:43, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure what "criteria" you're referring to, but {{db-c1}} places categories in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion for 4 days before moving them to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 13:49, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm referring to the standard criteria for speedy deletion. Tagging a page with a "db" template is one way of approaching that, but it is not the only one. Under the criteria, the four-day period starts – if we're being pedantic about this – the moment the category is emptied. If a tag is added measurably later, then the timing derived from it will be inaccurate. That does not, however, affect the point at which the category can be validly deleted under the CSD. This really isn't a big issue, however. The categories will be deleted at an appropriate time, and no-one needs to worry about them until then. Everything is under control. --Stemonitis (talk) 14:15, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Usually I catch these within 12-36 hours of you tagging them and I keep finding them. I don't understand how they can suddenly have articles assigned within that narrow window but I suppose it is possible. Or it could be whatever automated tool you are using is giving faulty information. So far, it's only categories you have assigned CSD tags, no other editor. Liz Read!
