West Virginia

Thank you for creating West Virginia shields. The infoboxes on Virginia routes that end ot the border now use them. --NE2 22:09, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

25x20px

Thank you for making the change to Template:Infobox road/browse no route; I didn't realize this was possible. --NE2 05:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. I saw this idea floating around WP:WSS a while ago regarding flag sizes, and figured that it would work with the shield images as well. Additionally, this concept can also be applied to the larger 70px shield for the infoboxes. For 750x600px shields, an 88x70px size for the shield will work. AWB

I was planning on doing my fixing with New York soon (if there's any "New York State Highway" out there), and I'll do it then. Have all the "NY-x.svg" shields been created? --NE2 19:10, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

You say "Towns along the route" for example; what other headers would need fixing? --NE2 19:26, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to fix "New York Route X", "Route X (New York)", and "State Route X (New York)", as those are shortened forms, like Virginia State Route articles often use "Route X" when talking about the route. --NE2 19:35, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Texas highway category on commons

I have started to break down the category into subs, but there are a lot of obsolete png images in there that can be deleted. Do you happen to have admin privledges on the commons or know someone that does to help clean those out of there? --Holderca1 19:41, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't have admin privledges on the Commons, but I am very familiar with the deletion system on the Commons, so I can generally get the shields deleted within a week or so. If you can provide a list of shields that have been replaced with PNGs (nothing specific, just an overview list), I can tag them for deletion and include them in my next deletion request. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:45, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I listed them here. Not sure if that is the right place or not. --Holderca1 20:41, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
That works. The only problem is that none of the admins ever check the superseded page, so they may not be deleted for a while. Of course, if I complain enough, maybe they'll delete them faster... =) --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:45, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I think we'd be better off making a traditional deletion request, such as the one I made at Commons:Deletion requests/Rhode Island shields for a boatload of superseded RI shields. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:03, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good, I will put a master list together of all that needs to be deleted. --Holderca1 13:59, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

My NY Shields

I see that you've marked many of my NYS Route sheilds for deletion. Considering that better versions of them were already made, I have no objections to doing so.

Speaking of shields, how do you feel about this one for the Long Mountain Parkway?

http://www.alpsroads.net/roads/ny/us_6/lmp.jpg

DanTD 22:17, 22 October 2006 (EST)

Yeah, eventually, I'll get around to making a huge deletion request for those shields (and a hundred other ones I found, like old Interstate PNGs made by another user), but it's pretty low on my to-do list. In any case, I'll see what I can do regarding a shield for the Long Mountain Parkway. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Why did you add the counties to the infobox? They are listed in the "communities along the route" section. --NE2 05:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I'd prefer to see the counties in the infobox than in the list, personally. The listing of counties in the infobox is required by the text currently present on WP:WVR, but I dunno, I guess it all comes down to preference. Personally, though, I'd like to be consistent across all WV articles, whatever that consistency ends up being. Kudos on ditching the WV highway template on WV 2 and on the main list page, BTW - feel free to put it up at WP:TFD if you decide to do so (as I would put it up myself once the infobox is added to all of the WV articles). --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:39, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

NY 208: Thanks!

I was absolutely floored (in a good way) when I checked in at the Route 208 article and found you had considered it a project FA. As the creator of most of the textual and visual content, I want to say thank you very much!

What in particular stands out as exemplary for you? Daniel Case 23:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

First, you are very welcome - you did an excellent job on the article. To me, what makes NY 208 such a great article is the extensive amount of detail and local color that is contained in the text of the article. Another plus that adds to the article are the unique pictures used in the article (especially the panoramic view near the bottom!). Together, these two features make NY 208 an article unparalleled by any other (right now) covered by WP:NYSR. Hopefully, we can make NY 208 the first GA or FA from WP:NYSR. =) --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 01:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Funny you should say they're unique ... I was able to grab them and put them in because I'd taken them for other articles (see Maybrook, New York, Walden, New York and Shawangunk Ridge) and realized they all had in common that I took them right on 208.
If this is what you/we want in NYSR articles, then by all means consider two I'm very proud of, 52 and 55 (both just recently tidied up ... I think you did some cleanup on those).
I do think, though, that I'm going to have to add a map to 208 (it needs one). Daniel Case 07:25, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Alright! Now we have a map! I'll be looking at the automated peer review suggestions and seeing what I can do.
If we want to go to GA or FA, we absolutely need some more history and citations. Where could we get it? I might also want to fix that picture of the Gunks so it looks better. Daniel Case 02:18, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Both NY 52 and 55 are very impressive! Excellent work! For NY 208, I'll try to dig up some sources for some history tidbits and other items so that we can improve the article. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:58, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

WV Highway Shields

You still never responded to why you deleted my WV highway shields. I would really appreciate it if you would respond. The Punk 01:24, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

My appologies, TMF. I didn't think you responded was because I never saw your archives. Actually I never knew you had archives until you posted your link on my talk page. My bad, I feel really stupid right now. But anyway, thanks for your time, and again I'm sorry. The Punk 21:44, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

It's no problem. Honest mistake. =) Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:58, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Curious problem

Hi, I need another set of eyes on this one. I put the infobox on Ohio State Route 797 this morning, and am getting an error where the shield should be (the red "x" in the corner); but when I click on that space, it indeed takes me to the shield (it's actually the WP mirror of the shield on the Commons). Now, if you follow the link to Ohio State Route 795, the SR 797 shield shows up there...so I'm at a loss as to why there is a problem on the SR 797 page. I don't think there's a problem with the coding. I have looked at this at home and at work, and get the same problem. Any ideas? — Homefryes SayDo 15:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

This is very strange, to say the least. I tried purging the image over at the Commons, tried purging it locally, tried purging the SR 797 page, but got nothing. The strangest thing: the shield will display flawlessly at any resolution except 70px. I'll post a message over at the Village pump to see if anyone can figure this out. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:57, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Oops, no sooner than I posted at the Village pump, the shield fixed itself after I hit purge a couple more times on the SR 797 page. How about that for irony? =) In any case, the shield should be good to go now. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Well thanks for trying what you tried (who knows, maybe it worked)! I appreciate your looking into it. Looks good from my end as well — Homefryes SayDo 21:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:WV-blank.svg

Problem is it doesn't reflect the reality of the signs in use. Maybe DOH is not building them to their own specifications. I doesn't look like the signs in real life. The radius on the edges is not tight enough. If you were to blow the image up to full size. It is not even close to the real thing, and use I did it on a plotter. --71Demon 14:12, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

"It doesn't look like" doesn't cut it. Find some valid, concrete specs that cut down on the MUTCD-standard radius of the signs and maybe I'll agree. But as of now, I see no need to change my position. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 14:16, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. The signage is designed to WVDOT specifications and I see no problem with it. Remember that this is the same user who cannot differentiate between "City specific" and "City streets" - not that the latter violates any rulesets. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 00:54, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I put this section at the bottom replacing the various edit code that placed there - many of the templates had news info below the code which was affecting the templates in some form

this help? --• master_sonLets talk 17:26, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I figured after thinking about it a bit (see my 2nd comment on your talk page). The only issue is that the "NC" portion of the link was not changed for each template, so all of the edit links pointed to "NC" instead of the correct template. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 17:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Whoa nelly

Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2006 October 29. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 01:04, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Holy hell. That's it, this deleting of navboxes has to end now, and it begins by keeping these templates. I've added my $.02. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 01:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Would it be possible to create a standard 3di template which can then be filled in using paramaters rather than creating one for every interstate that needs it? I may be missing a key idea, but I think taking that approach would quell these rampant TFDs. Stratosphere (U T) 02:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmm...this could definitely work. I'll see what I can whip up. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 02:29, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I would disagree since the templates are repeated on the page, which is why templates were created, and if the template needs to be changed... --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:33, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
If you had a more flexible template that could handle stuff like this:
{{3di|parent=25|child1=225|child2=etc...}}
couldn't it serve the same purpose or am I missing something? Stratosphere (U T) 03:51, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
States too, and past-future... --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:05, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Soooo, you're saying it'd be too much for a paramater based infobox? Remember Infobox road is pretty crazy, but it works. Just brainstorming a possibly way to consolidate all those templates into one easy to fold super kit for only $19.99. Cheers. Stratosphere (U T) 04:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I think I could make a parameter-based template work, if I included a ton of parser functions (#if and the like). I'll work on this in my sandbox over the next couple of days, over which time if anyone wants to help with the coding, feel free to do so. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 04:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, I failed to find a single parser function that would work correctly in this case, so I don't think a parameter based template is possible. But something has to be done. For some reason, people are prejudiced against these templates, and unfortunately the precedent for their eventual total deletion has been set. The only thing I can think of would be to recreate these templates as a subpage of WP:IH and then use them in the articles, although there's probably some policy against this. Another option would be to replace the {{3di X}} templates (not {{3di}}) with manual entries. But based on the results at DRV and TfD, the current system will not work. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 15:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I'll move this conversation to WT:IH, since this is a concern to the whole project. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 15:58, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
