Info about the event

[edit]

The WoW network at Wellcome Trust are hosting this annual Women's History Month Wikithon where we will make and improve Wikipedia entries about notable women from the history of science and medicine. Join us to celebrate the people in science that deserve a more prominent place in the online historical record. You'll learn how to edit Wikipedia in order to harness the power of the web to share your knowledge.

For small but powerful edits, think about where people's names and works should be mentioned or included in references - this makes them more visible.

You might also like to add photographs to pages. There are some here.

If you're interested in finding someone who might need a brand new page creating, consider looking at the List of Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences or the List of Fellows of the African Academy of Sciences for someone notable.

Here are some useful links to help you with your editing:

  • You can add pictures for use on Wiki-pages and beyond on Wikimedia Commons. Your Wikipedia account will work on Commons too - as well as all the other Wiki-projects and different language versions of Wikipedia.

Here are some ways to keep track of your edits:

  • You can view all your contributions to Wikipedia by clicking "Contributions" (in the top right of this page).
  • The Pageviews tool is a great way of measuring how many people are looking at the page you created/edited. You can even export the data if you'd like it for reports, etc.
