Assignment - Introduction

Hello Everyone,

Please post a starting introduction in Canvas just so I can get to know you individually. Please include a little bit about yourself, what your dream position is an a new RN would be, the best way to contact you, and anything else you would like to share. This course is presented in an online format which helps you work in groups to enhance an article on a topic of your choice or prepare an article from scratch. The project will be presented to your class at the end of the semester. You are required to keep a log on your time spent on this project. Each student should have a total of 75 individual hours by the end of your project. This is my first time teaching this course so please be patient and if there are any questions along the way please don't hesitate to contact me at SYeager@Rockford.edu

You will be working in groups. Please email me with your selected partners and a specialty/topic of your choice. Please send me the information by September 6th at the latest.

For week 4: Adding to an article, this should NOT be your final project article. It can be in the same subject/specialty but has to be a different article.

Please add a discussion post to Canvas under First Article Review after you have selected one article and reviewed it. You MUST include a link to the article and your review. This should be roughly one page with information you thought should have been included or images to help the reader understand the material. Minimum one citation required. This assignement is per group NOT individual.

Milestones

You probably have some feedback from other students and possibly other Wikipedians. Consider their suggestions, decide whether it makes your work more accurate and complete, and edit your draft to make those changes.

Resources:

  • Editing Wikipedia, pages 12 and 14
  • Reach out to your Wikipedia Expert if you have any questions.

Assignment - Begin moving your work to Wikipedia

Now that you've improved your draft based on others' feedback, it's time to move your work live - to the "mainspace."

Resource: Editing Wikipedia, page 13

Week 9

Course meetings
Thursday, 1 November 2018
Assignment - Continue improving your article

Exercise

Add links to your article

Now's the time to revisit your text and refine your work. You may do more research and find missing information; rewrite the lead section to represent all major points; reorganize the text to communicate the information better; or add images and other media.

Start thinking about presentations. Please have an organized way to introduce your topic to your class. I would suggest you have prepared at least 1 visual aid for presentations. This can include a PowerPoint, a class hand out, or brochure/pamplet provided to patients. Be creative! This is an excellent way to beef up your portfolio when interviewing as a new RN. Any questions, let me know!
