Aftermath Shows

I see that the US series mentions the companions shows i.e. Watcha Packin', The Pit Stop, and etc. But I also see that for the adaptations, they also have aftermath shows, examples: The After Shave with Danny Beard for UK, After the Race for IT, and others. Shouldn't they be mention in the adaptations' article? — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 17:35, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

I'd say so! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:36, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Franchise Templates.

Watching what has happened with the template for Drag Race Sweden and the fact that putting the judges in the template has been viewed as inappropriate. At this point, I figure the rule of thumb should be either (one Season with pages plus 4 queens with pages) or (two seasons with pages). It appears that if there are five pages linked to by the template it should be OK.Naraht (talk) 16:09, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I requested restoration of the Sweden template. Will request restoration of Template:Drag Race Belgique if a second season is announced. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:23, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Having Mademoiselle Boop translated would probably help the situation there.Naraht (talk) 17:16, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Casting for the second season was opened quite a while back, if I remember quickly. I can provide an external link if needed. Cornmazes (talk) 03:06, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
You're right. I should clarify, I meant we should request template restoration once a page is created for Season 2. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:04, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Five articles seems to be the usual benchmark. See WP:NENAN which suggests a "rule of five". --woodensuperman 12:01, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
Woodensuperman I agree. But the way the project tends to work Franchises, Queens who win a season are automatically notable (and if they don't have an article one will be created within a week) and if there is enough information to justify a season 2 (which generally includes a list of queens), then that causes a split into a Franchise article, a season 1 article and a season 2 article. So at absolute minimum, when a season 2 page is created, there will be four pages: Franchise, Season 1, Season 2, and Season 1 winner. That's four, but also is a complex enough relationship among the pages that, IMO, a template makes sense. (and someone will have normally created a page for some *other* queen in Season 1 *or* it will be five when Season 2 ends and *that* queen gets an article :) ).Naraht (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Template:Drag Race Belgique has been restored. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:27, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Really I think this is WP:TOO SOON, Should have waited until it passed the rule of five. Articles are already well linked. --woodensuperman 18:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
@Woodensuperman The season 2 page is being created soon, if you're willing to let this be for now. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:17, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Oh yeah, no worries, not going to nominate it for deletion or anything, but we would have survived without this a bit longer... --woodensuperman 18:24, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

DR templates on Judges pages.

I know that the judges are not supposed to be linked on the Franchise DR pages, the question is whether those templates should be *on* the judges pages. For example, Rhys Nicholson has the Template:RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under template on the page.Naraht (talk) 17:46, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

@Naraht My understanding is navboxes should only be included on articles using the template. user:Woodensuperman may know otherwise? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:51, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
I've worked under that *general* rule before. See WP:BIDIRECTIONAL. However, I don't feel the relevant statements there are *hard* rules.
  • Every article that transcludes a given navbox should normally also be included as a link in the navbox, so that the navigation is bidirectional.
  • Avoid adding performances of entertainers into the navboxes for the productions that they appeared in, or crew members into navboxes for the productions they worked on. This includes, but is not limited to actors/actresses, comedians, television/radio presenters, writers, composers, etc. This avoids over-proliferation of navigation templates at the bottom of performers' articles, and avoids putting WP:UNDUE weight on certain performances of an entertainer over others.
For the second one, I think that mostly affects the Guest Judges, to make sure that Nancy Pelosi doesn't end up in a DR template, or with one on her page.Naraht (talk) 18:05, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Absolutely not. This would be against WP:PERFNAV, WP: BIDIRECTIONAL and most importantly WP:UNDUE. --woodensuperman 18:36, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Notability tags

Not sure this was necessary, but an editor has added notability tags to all of the following bios, which appear to be the non-winners of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under (season 2):

I invite project members to help expand these entries and/or discuss notability on respective talk pages. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:22, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Just as a start, I agree with the Notability question on Aubrey Haive. (Haven't looked at all of them) Right now the page about her shows nothing about Notability other than having been on DR:DU. That seems to be a textbook reason for removal. I wouldn't even be able to vote in favor of keeping if it came up for Deletion.Naraht (talk) 22:27, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Category for the queen Redirects?

Do the redirects that we generally create for all queens for a new season of RPDR get put into the Category for Contestants in that countries edition of Drag Race or only the ones with articles? For example, Kam Hugh (from Season 1) is a redirect to DR:FR:S1, but is not in Category:Drag_Race_France_contestants. OTOH Sara Forever (from Season 2) is a redirect to DR:FR:S2, but *is* in Category:Drag_Race_France_contestants. (Assume we are *not* talking about the winners of the seasons who generally have articles and go into a subcat for winners) Naraht (talk) 14:06, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Deadnames advice.

I'm sort of split on the following. The guidance on WP:DEADNAME is "If a living transgender or non-binary person was not notable under a former name (a deadname), it should not be included in any page (including lists, redirects, disambiguation pages, category names, templates, etc.), even in quotations, even if reliable sourcing exists."

Let's say that you had a queen on RPDR:Season 5.5 (picking a number) who was born James Smith, and participated in RPDR under the drag name Patty Bellima. She finished 2nd and was the winner of Miss Continental the year prior to the filming. So they are definitely Notable. Two years after the season was broadcast, they transitioned and took the legal name Patty Bellima. The Queen was notable *before* they changed their name, so in the two years after the season was broadcast, having the article start out Patty Bellima (the Drag name of James Smith). Should the name James Smith be dropped after they transition? (Let's say that there are good references on the birth name.) I'm quite willing to take this to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biography (which is the talk page for the article that WP:DEADNAME is a redirect to) But I thought I'd ask here. (This isn't quite Carmen Carrera's situation but close.Naraht (talk) 22:04, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Milan, Dida Ritz, and Lineysha Sparx wikipedia page

I'm still newish to wikipedia. I made my account just to add stuff to be more spefific for some aritcles like where a famous NYC resident grew up because people from NYC tend to go "i'm from Harlem" or "I live in Gravesend" if other people know those neighborhoods. I just started making pages now

I created the Laila McQueen wikipedia page because lately, queens like Kandy Ho and Vivacious gotten their own wikipedia pages recently and Laila has done a lot and I was shock to see that she didn't have her own page yet knowing that she's won an emmy. I think a few more queens that deserve their own are Milan and Dida Ritz, both from season 4 and Lineysha Sparx from season 5. Milan (who goes by her government name Dwayne Cooper) is now a Broadway star while Dida and Lineysha was very underrated preformers and a lot of fans love them. I have some other girls I feel like should have their own more but that could just be me being a fan. MiitomoChris (talk) 21:06, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

MiitomoChrisWelcome! You did the heavy lifting on the Laila McQueen page. I put some comments on how Laila McQueen could be improved, Another Believer, a heavy editor on this project did a lot of upgrades to the references and elsewhere, take a look and the difference.
My suggestion for most of these is that you start them in Draftspace. One of the more experienced editors can easily move something from Draftspace for a queen where that page has only been a simple redirect. We can handle other situations (if there have been other edits to the article/redirect), but it gets complicated. For Milan, I've seen things under Dwayne Milan, Milan and Dwayne Cooper. If she's actively getting gigs on Broadway under Dwayne Cooper, the Wikipedia article may belong there. Broadway isn't particularly a place that *forces* the government name, For ex., Jinkx Monson is definitely identified under that name during her runs on the musical Chicago, I haven't see any mention as the queen being "Jerick".
As a note, in general a queen has to have done *something*, generally notable other than be a contestant on Drag Race for a page to exist. (There are pages for queens who've participated in one of the Franchise that exist, but I'm not sure I'd be able to defend if it came up for Deletion). Laila has an Emmy, that's clearly enough, For Milan, I'm not sure her time on Broadway is enough, but I'm willing to take a look. For the other two, I'm not sure. (I think they were in low budget movies, but I don't think that's enough).Naraht (talk) 04:28, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

How many queens with wikipedia articles under *birth* name?

Given the discussion of Kimora Amour, I'm wondering for how many of the queens, the article is under the name they "had at birth" (which is, in most cases, their "Boy Name"). This is not the same as which ones are under their legal names, because I believe some of the queens who have transitioned have taken their Drag name as their new legal name.

The only ones that I've found at least from the US are Derrick Barry, Willam Belli (who participated as Willam) and Kelly Mantle. I seem to remember that when we were talking about sorting names for Drag Queens that there was a "last part" of a name that two queens shared, but in one case it was their actual last name and in the other it was simply part of their drag name. (Not Brown, O'hara or Davenport apparently) (Chad Michaels *might be who I was thinking of, but that's not their legal name (Chad Michael Storbeck)) Naraht (talk) 21:42, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Only a redirect article currently, but Michael Marouli. Also, Ilona Verley, Cristian Peralta, and Joe Black. Cornmazes (talk) 23:57, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Una Navidad con Samantha Hudson

It is not related to the Wikiproject, but it could be of interest. Supremme de Luxe, Pupi Poisson, Hornella Góngora, Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha and Diamante Merybrown are part of the cast. Peridotito (talk) 16:33, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Why not make WikiProject for all drag? @Another Believer, what do you think? We just got to let everyone know on whoever worked on drag! — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 16:36, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
@JuanGLP There was limited interest in WikiProject Drag at WikiProject LGBT studies. I am not convinced the project is needed at this time, without a strong demand. Folks wanting to discuss drag can easily do so at WikiProject LGBT studies. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:39, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Redirects to episode titles.

I was moving redirects from DR: Belgique to DR: Belgique Season 1. I noticed that there are a number of redirects to episode names, for example, L'émission qui vous déshabille. In general, do these make sense to have? I picked a more well known TV-show (M*A*S*H, I'm old. :) ) and picked a random episode "The Price of Tomato Juice", no redirect. I know redirects are cheap, but still... (this won't be a problem for a season 2 or later, since the redirects won't have to be changed)Naraht (talk) 01:30, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

How does one speed up the review process? I’ve only submitted one, Alaska Thunderfuck, and its sat in good article nominations since July. Cornmazes (talk) 19:51, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
I've also waited many months for reviews at GAN. Just depends on who's volunteering to review, their interests, if any backlog drives are held, etc. Sometimes I ask for reviews at relevant WikiProjects. I don't do GA reviews, but some editors are more willing to review your nomination if you complete reviews, if that's something you're interested in doing. Patience is a virtue! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! I was just confused, since I’ve seen quite few submissions (including some of your own, lol) be reviewed in days or even hours- I wanted to know how to crack the code xD Cornmazes (talk) 03:17, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Some editors might be more willing to take on some of my nominations because they see I've been through the process so many times before, or even because we've collaborated before. Still, I've waited a long time for some nominations to get picked up many times, don't worry! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:22, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
You might also consider requesting a copy edit from the Guild of Copy Editors for articles you intend to nominate for Good article status. I think some editors, when they are considering which submissions to review at GAN, might be more interested if they see that the article has already gone through a review of some sort. Just a thought! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:47, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

For these three, I had the entire cat follow the overall default sort except for the RPDR cat. I then went and looked at the Drag Race winners, and Raja Gemini was alphabetized under 'A', for her birth last name (pulled from Wikidata) of Amrullah. I overrode that. When I get a chance I'll take a look at the other Franchises. Drag Race Espan~a appears to have a few queens who are alphabetized under birth name (and since they are spanish, that involves calculating Patronymic and Matronymic.)
In general, the correct fix is change {{Wikidata Infobox}} to {{Wikidata Infobox|defaultsort=no}} and make sure there are no DEFAULTSORT entries after that.Naraht (talk) 23:42, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Collaboration of the Month parameter in Template:WikiProject Drag Race

Just an FYI to fellow project members: User:MSGJ has added a 'cotm' parameter to Template:WikiProject Drag Race. Here's an example of how the parameter can be used instead of manually adding COTM banners. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:30, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

I have also created a category for all the CotMs: Category:WikiProject Drag Race collaboration of the month. Does this look okay? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:34, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
@MSGJ I think so, yes! Thank you for continuing to populate the category. I'll keep an eye on your progress and let you know if I see any errors. Thanks for your help here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:36, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
@MSGJ I see you went with Category:WikiProject Drag Race collaboration of the Month. For caps consistency, could we maybe go with Category:WikiProject Drag Race Collaboration of the Month? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:25, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes of course. Not sure what I was thinking there! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:36, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
@MSGJ Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:07, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Contestant articles without images

Here’s the list of queens that do not have an image on their article. Someone else can alphabetize this (NOTE: I ended up doing it anyways, lol) or add any other razzle-dazzle if they want, but.. yeah, here’s this!

Extended content

Cornmazes (talk) 22:16, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Wow! I don't know how you did this but thanks! Very helpful ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:26, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
I went through every. Single. Article. 0/10, do not recommend 😭 Cornmazes (talk) 23:42, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks again. Hopefully we can make the list a lot shorter by the end of the year. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:53, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
Hopefully.. but knowing the amount of seasons that are going to premiere this year, we’ll probably gain as many as we lose. Staying optimistic, though! Cornmazes (talk) 23:55, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
I kinda like the constant stream of new biographies. Shows the diversity of drag and humanity in general! :) ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:57, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
Oh of course, same here! Cornmazes (talk) 01:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for alphabetizing the list. I've done some additional formatting for easier viewing. Would be great if we could keep this up to date over time, removing entries when images are found and of course adding as new unillustrated bios are created. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:53, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Fellow project members, would it be helpful if I pinned the list of unillustrated biographies at the top of this page, for continued updating? ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:02, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
I wouldn’t object! Maybe we could also make a list of queens who also need better-quality images as well? cough Coco Montrese cough Cornmazes (talk) 18:14, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Ok, since at least one other project member is interested, I've collapsed the list of entries in this section and copied a pinned version at the top of this page. I'm not sure what to do about the stray "{{subst:DNAU|{{{1}}}}}", though. If we decide the list isn't particularly helpful, or is in the way, I'm fine removing. --Another Believer (Talk) 18:29, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

Goals for 2024

Do any project members want to share any goals for WikiProject Drag Race in 2024?

I have some ideas:

  • Goal of 1 Good article per month = 12 Good articles for 2024
  • Goal of translating Good articles into other languages
  • Creating a list of unillustrated contestant biographies  Done!
  • Goal of promoting 1 article to Featured status

---Another Believer (Talk) 18:56, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

I can do the unillustrated contestant bio list ^^ Cornmazes (talk) 21:36, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Bring Back My Girls

Filmed at RuPaul's DragCon, Ts Madison's WOW show Bring Back My Girls reunites contestants from various branches of the Runiverse. I don't feel like I see this show mentioned in many Filmography tables. Would anyone be interested in taking on the task of updating queen bios with this show? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:56, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

I did create a draft article for this series! Draft! — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 03:42, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Oh, great! Thank you. It'll take some time to build out, but I hope eventually the article will list participants for each episode. This'll help with knowing which biographies to update, too. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:47, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
@Another Believer, I think the article is ready for the mainspace. What do you think? — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 04:22, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
@JuanGLP  Done ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:30, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
All done! The Instagram account has also revealed the lineup of episodes and guests for season three, which will be filmed at DragCon UK later this month here.

The lineup includes:

I suppose we can expect a late 2024-early 2025 release for these episodes, I would think? Cornmazes (talk) 05:56, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
I believe the live-tape for the UK might be release late 2024, with the LA live-tape will be released in 2025. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 07:15, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

For Bring Back My Girls S2E6, it looks from the list there that it is both queens from UKS3 and UKS4, is that correct?Naraht (talk) 13:54, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes! For series three, Kitty Scott-Claus, Victoria Scone, Vanity Milan, Ella Vaday. (I don't remember who else.) For series four, it's just Cheddar Gorgeous and Sminty Drop. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 14:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
I just use S, easier not to have to remember which countries use Series. :) Naraht (talk) 14:39, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Since Bring Back My Girls is now up to date and the show has been added to the biographies of all participants, I will archive this section. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Probably too late to put the Genie back into the bottle, but in general, we've waited on creating new season/series pages until we had official lists of queens.Naraht (talk) 19:58, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

The Switch Drag race redirects...

It looks like we are missing at least some of the Switch Drag Race redirects, due to the fact that in the translation requests, the English is Red, not Blue, is there a reason, or did we ust create redirects with slightly different names than in Spanish?Naraht (talk) 01:02, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

@Naraht Feel free to create whatever redirects you feel are appropriate. OK if I archive this section? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:53, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

I’m working on additions to Sisi Superstar’s article, but a particular reference I dug up that has a good chunk of info is flagged by Wikipedia for its domain being “.xyz”. I submitted the link for whitelisting at MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist over two weeks ago, but with no response. Does anyone know how to speed up the process or an alternative solution? I’m getting a bit antsy, as I’d like for the link to be cleared before I make my other planned edits. For reference, this is the link: https://liminul.1xyz/who-is-sisi-superstar/ (REMOVE THE 1 FROM THE DOMAIN, WIKI FLAGS IT OTHERWISE) it is an independent magazine that is part-interview, part-biography, which would make it a reliable source (as Sisi is involved in the article’s production).

Thank you in advance! Cornmazes (talk) 05:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Runner(s)-up

After dealing with a IP edit on Season 9. Is it correct that runners up in the infobox and the progress trackers does *not* apply to anyone eliminated earlier in the final episode, but *only* to those queens whose name could have come out of RuPaul's mouth when the final winner was announced. (So that in Season 9 only Peppermint is the runner-up, with Trinity and Shea Coulee having been eliminated in earlier lip-syncs. Naraht (talk) 15:25, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

@Naraht, you're right. Shea and Trinity were eliminated making them place in 3rd place. Peppermint is the runner-up. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 23:04, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
