It looks like it would be possible to get User:Mr.Z-bot to list the most popular essays for us. I thought that page views might be a useful mechanism for determining the "impact" of an essay. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:54, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

It seems to already be a factor. +1 on automatically updating the impact rating via bot though. --Cybercobra (talk) 06:09, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Looking at the page history, it appears that Bernsteinbot is doing that (since it just added the Sept 2010 data to that column). Thanks, WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:11, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

There was a very long discussion about how to assess impact, and we went with a weighted scale that looks at page views, watchers, and incoming links. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 20:32, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

My one beef is that the incoming links count does not appear to count links from edit summaries, which is I think where many, many of the links to essays originate. Anyone have an solution for this? UnitedStatesian (talk) 03:20, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
