Photographers participating in this activity will need to think about copyright before uploading any particular photo to commons. If a photo is covered by freedom of panorama, then it can be uploaded to commons, on the basis that the only copyright holder who needs to give a free use licence is the photographer. If a photo is not covered by freedom of panorama, then it may be eligible to be uploaded to English Wikipedia as a non-free fair use image, but cannot be uploaded to commons.

In Australia, freedom of panorama applies to buildings, and to eligible works "situated, otherwise than temporarily, in a public place, or in premises open to the public", but not necessarily to such works situated in premises temporarily open to the public, ie normally closed to the public.
