Earl Marshal

[edit]

At the time of their coronation the Earl Marshal, was not Charles Howard, 11th Duke of Norfolk but Edward Howard, 9th Duke of Norfolk (1686-1777). 109.245.111.253 (talk) 21:26, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

It shouldn't matter if the original was not "the original one from the Royal Collection". The original, "after Allan Ramsay" is in the RC, and the two images, put together, are of the same height; the new arrangement has two images of different heights. The two portraits seem to have equal merit as images of Charlotte in her coronation robes, so if someone wants to combine the portrait of George and the current portrait of Charlotte into one file? Go ahead. Right now though, the old file, uploaded by AKTC3, should remain. Pinging those who may be interested: @Keivan.f: @Alansplodge: Tim O'Doherty (talk) 16:53, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The one I had added is the one hanging at Buckingham Palace at the moment. Per the Royal Collection: "The demand for versions of these official State Portraits was immense, from members of the royal family, sovereigns, heads of state, colonial governors, ambassadors, corporations, institutions and courtiers. Orders for 150 pairs, 26 of the King alone, 9 of the Queen alone, are listed." The other one is apparently a copy from Ramsay's studio passed down to the Duke of Cambridge and later to Queen Mary's brother Adolphus, 1st Marquess of Cambridge. It's not that it's invalid, but it's not the one painted by Ramsay and hanging at BP right now. Keivan.fTalk 17:05, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Right. Even so, the "collage" of the two into one file fits better. Until someone can make one with your proposed portrait (which I would support), we really should be keeping the other file. Alternatively, the new portrait could be cropped into a separate file, so that the two have the same height. Otherwise, it looks a bit odd. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 17:08, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I actually discussed the matter with AKTC3 about 25 days ago and they said they could possibly look into it. Another option would be submitting a request to the Graphics Lab. Keivan.fTalk 20:50, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. Wouldn't want to be a burden on 'em, but if that's available, these two may be potential candidates for an image-merge as well. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:53, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we'll see if they are willing to do it or not. If not, I will submit a request for all three articles at the Graphics Lab. Keivan.fTalk 21:42, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 21:43, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
