I've noticed that you've blocked other ranges doing the same type of edits to pages like Swashbuckle (TV series) and Mutya Buena. It's definitely an IP sock, but I don't know the master - maybe you do? LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 23:08, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Anna Freud

Hi ScottishFinnishRadish, if you have time would you mind looking at the recent edit history of the Anna Freud article with regard to disruptive editing? There is an editor making controversial additions (eg. that Anna was homophobic, anorexic, an occultist, not a psychologist) who refuses to accept any version of the page other than their own, despite the additions being disputed by two editors. The editor has been advised about consensus, BRD etc but doesn't seem to care. Harold the Sheep (talk) 07:14, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

Promotional username person

Hi, sorry I didn't notice this before you blocked them (the account I reported at UAA, EasyWithAI), but it seems that they made an account after the filter warned them the first time?

<This account>, created 6 minutes after the filter was set off, made the exact same edit that the account I reported tried to: <diff>.

Figured I should let you know anyways, since the block was for spam, not just username representing website. – 2804:F14:80CB:CF01:78BA:3B7C:458:60B9 (talk) 23:29, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

I left them a coi welcome. Looks like the edit was made before I blocked, so I'm going to assume good faith and assume that they read the username rules. If the spam keeps up after some warnings then it'll be time to block. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:35, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Would you mind revoking TPA? They are continuing their homophobic rantings and it's quite upsetting. Thanks, Schminnte (talk contribs) 00:54, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Talk Page Guidelines

Hello, per WP:COLLAPSENO, you may not collapse a conversation if any other users object. "Involved parties must not use these templates to end a discussion over the objections of other editors.". Please do not collapse discussion on talk pages if other users object. This is a sub-set of the WP:TALK guidelines. Denaar (talk) 22:33, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

I am an uninvolved administrator trying to keep a contentious RFC focused on the content at hand, so the closer will not have to read dozens of replies with quickly diminishing relation to the question under discussion. I'm unsure why you believe that I am an involved party. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:36, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
The discussion is absolutely focused on the content at hand! As I said in my edit summary reverting the collapse, the RfC is about whether the claims should be included in Wikivoice, and the collapsed discussion is about whether the sources at hand can support said claims in Wikivoice! Oktayey (talk) 22:56, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
About the time the UCOC, the Bible, Nazis and Jews are the thread rather than the topic at hand it's getting into the weeds. Further discussion among those lines will not constructive contribute to the outcome of the RFC. The arguments about bias in sources have already been made, so continuing them with increasingly unrelated metaphors among the same editors isn't going to build consensus, and is going to create increasingly more work for the closer. Hatting the section leaves the discussion there, and makes it clear that further travel down that path won't be productive. That is what hats are used for. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:17, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
No matter how outlandish those examples may sound out of context, they demonstrated arguments all entirely focused on the usability of biased sources for supporting claims in Wikivoice—the topic of the RfC.
continuing them with increasingly unrelated metaphors among the same editors isn't going to build consensus
The purpose of a public discussion board is to share ideas for anybody's use in forming their own opinion, not just the person being responded to—I suspect you're well-aware of this. By collapsing a discussion, especially with a comment that labels it as off-topic, its visibility to others is significantly diminished, inhibiting the fair development of consensus among the page's viewers.
Of course, these arguments about the discussion's futility and the workload of the closer are all irrelevant due to the simple fact that the collapsed discussion was not off-topic. Oktayey (talk) 03:13, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for finally blocking 197.87.63.202. It is very much appreciated. Ss112 11:27, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

I went with a 3 month anon-only rangeblock. Once I took a look at the other IP and checked the range the disruption became obvious. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:28, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
How did you conclude these were the same person? The other IP does not seem to have any interaction with either Ss112 or the other IP. SilverLocust 💬 12:05, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Topic similarities, frequent blanking of talk pages with snarky summaries, similar edit warring patterns. It doesn't have to be the same editor for the editing from the range to be disruptive taken as a whole. The block also still allows account creation. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:19, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Wouldn't registering an account while they're blocked for their behaviour on an IP address be block evasion...? Or did you mean if the rangeblock has accidentally caught another user that they can register to edit? Ss112 13:42, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
It will allow people caught in the block to create an account. I was trying to use the lightest touch that will still stop the disruption. If accounts start editing similarly, they'll be blocked and we'll be able to open an SPI. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:07, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Malicious editing

Hi. I have checked my page Will Adam (Anglican Archdeacon) and there are two paragraphs at the bottom which have been recently added / edited and are false and defamatory. I know who did it, but don't want to contact them.

The IP address that is associated with those edits is 156.61.250.251

Rather than playing ping pong in re-editing is there anything that can be done?

Thanks 164.39.151.170 (talk) 09:17, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

I don't have time to look into this right away, so your best bet is to raise the issue at WP:BLPN. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 09:31, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Question from Basedenverist on tiktok (13:22, 11 August 2023)

I want to change some History article's am I allowed to use AI for informational stuff? --Basedenverist on tiktok (talk) 13:22, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Basedenverist on tiktok: Thanks for asking first. The English Wikipedia doesn't yet have a formal policy regarding AI-generated content, but the answer is almost always "no". Large language models like ChatGPT basically work by putting words together that are statistically likely to co-occur, based on samples from books and websites such as Wikipedia. Such content usually appears to be plausible at first glance, but often contains glaring factual errors and may even contain copyright violations. Asking a chatbot to write an article "with references" doesn't help either, as the chatbot will just make up fake references. Although it's theoretically possible to write factual and encyclopedic content with AI assistance I strongly recommend against doing so, since the effort you'll need to spend fact-checking and sourcing every claim is at least as great as just writing something from scratch using your own words. We've had a lot of problems with new editors adding AI-generated content without checking it thoroughly, and those editors have often been blocked to prevent the spread of misinformation. SamX [talk · contribs] 15:54, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

That's a minor annoyance compared to trying to mass revert someone spamming racist vitriol on talk pages and finding that SineBot has helpfully signed all of the messages so you have to go to the history of each talk page and restore an older revision.
On an unrelated note, it probably won't be until around January that I start working on Shit flow diagram again. After farming/preserving season ends in October it'll be time for pheasant and turkey, then deer. I don't normally free up until deep winter, depending on how the ice is forming for ice fishing. Yet another of my pesky questions

I have a weird one for you! I managed to sign up for (but not really use) a new social media site that is invite only. I have invites, and keep getting more. Being that I am old, I don't really have anyone to whom I can give them. I was thinking of putting up a brief note on my user page saying something like: hey, if you're here and would like a code, let me know. But then it occurred to me that it would be oddly forum-y and a bit close to sort of promoting that other site. What do you think? Minor sin or grave offense? Have a nice day! Dumuzid (talk) 17:04, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Editing editing while logged out

Hi Scottish Finnish Radish,

I was wondering if something could be done about this IP, who appears to be the new user TheEagle7 editting while logged out: [1], [2], [3]. Furthermore, the edits link to the article Hunnic art, created by Giray Altay, a sock puppeteer whom you previously blocked - I think a connection is thus likely, given the topic especially.

I don't have the time to dig into this too deeply right now. I suggest you bring this up at the SPI page. I'll try and take a look later today. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:12, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Ponyo, any chance you can take a peek? I see you've handled this SPI in the past. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:14, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Just eyeballing it without any CU goggles, TheEagle7 and the IP appear quite DUCKish. I think that evidence of a potential connection between TheEagle7 and the Giray Altay group would need to be provided at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dirk0001.-- Ponyobons mots 21:45, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
That was my thoughts on it as well. I'm agfing that it was accidental logged out editing. If the disruption resumes I'll step in. SPI is a good idea though. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:09, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

I'm hoping this doesn't need an explanation?

I take it I'm OK to boot it? Antonio Fominaya, Knitsey (talk) 21:57, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

I think it does need an explanation. I have no idea what's going on. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:15, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
The drawing? Knitsey (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
It's from [6], although I don't know if it's actually public domain. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:20, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
I saw where it came from, I just didn't think it was of a standard for Wikipedia? Bit happy to leave it if you think it's OK. Knitsey (talk) 22:24, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
I don't really have an opinion on it, other than I'm not sure if it's actually an old drawing or some sketch someone threw together. The machine translation of that page didn't seem to provide any information about the image.
If it's actually a period sketch of the subject it's likely the only image we'll have access to. All in all, I have no idea. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:27, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
OK, thanks for checking. Knitsey (talk) 22:30, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
No worries. Sorry I didn't catch on right away, and didn't have any more solid advice for you. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:32, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for block!

Thanks for correcting my block on Toshko Vihrenski. I did intend it to be site-wide, just misclicked. I appreciate your correction. --Yamla (talk) 09:52, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

No worries, glad to help. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:45, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

Revert page move

Hi, you blocked FablesForDeerLife (talk · contribs) but can you please revert the page move vandalism by deleting Jake Paul and moving H A R G G E R ? back to this page without redirect? Thanks. Uhai (talk) 21:23, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and reverted the move (fyi, Uhai, you could've done this yourself, as it's possible for autoconfirmed users to revert moves where the redirects do not have any other edits). Since you edited the redirects to CSD tag, they had to be moved out of the way (the redirects are now at Draft:Move/Jake Paul and Draft talk:Move/Jake Paul and still need to be deleted). Elli (talk | contribs) 21:31, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the cleanup. I saw the vandalism as I was sitting down to dinner with my wife and figured I could at least stop the disruption. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:33, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
@Elli: I wasn't the one who added the CSD tag, hence why I asked ScottishFinnishRadish to revert the page move, otherwise I would have done so myself. I did notify the user who did, Magnolia677, about this. Thanks for undoing the vandalism, however.
ScottishFinnishRadish, could you please delete the inappropriate edit summaries of this vandal? Thanks. Uhai (talk) 21:34, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
All set. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:36, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
(@Uhai: my apologies for not checking that) Elli (talk | contribs) 21:37, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
"I was sitting down to dinner with my wife and figured I could at least stop the disruption." People actually disrupt their meals for the good of the project. This devotion to is hard to explain to those who aren't Wikipedia editors. I sometimes tell people I'm one of about 600 people in the world who have made over 100,000 edits to Wikipedia, and they look at me in curious amazement. This morning I brought a long forgotten town in the middle of the Canadian Prairies, Ingelow, Manitoba, back to life. No awards. No payment. Wikipedia is a higher calling. Cheers (and enjoy your meal!). Magnolia677 (talk) 21:49, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Could I get your opinion on something when you have some time, please?

See this exchange [7]...Am I somehow out of line here? DN (talk) 20:22, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

I have already followed up on their talk page [8], but I wanted to get a second opinion. Cheers. DN (talk) 20:27, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Although I don't see it as a personal attack, or even especially uncivil, I think it was unnecessarily antagonistic. It's easy to read that as saying that someone who disagrees with your position is on par with a flat-earther. It's pretty minor in the grand scheme of PVP that goes on in political topics, but there's no drawback in avoiding statements like that. I don't know that it's really worth arguing over, but as someone objected de-escalation is probably the best course.
I think your follow-up on their talk page is probably the wrong tack to take, since you're basically chiding them for behavior similar to that they reasonably interpret you of engaging in. A "sorry, that wasn't my intent," or no response probably would have been better. That's just my opinion though, and reasonable people can disagree. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:02, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for offering your perspective. I thought I was being careful not to make it personal or seem directed at them or anyone there. It was purely meant as an example of how there will always be disagreements. Making accusations/warnings on an article talk page, as they did, instead of on a personal talk page, as I did, still seems more combative and personal IMO. Thanks again for your input. I'll try follow your advice next time, but hopefully there won't be a next time. Cheers. DN (talk) 22:53, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
I wasn't really speaking to their actions either. I wouldn't have advised their response either. As I said above, it's not something I really see as worth arguing over, which includes your original statement. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:06, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Assuming you're talking about 45.66.95.227 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), the only thing they cannot remove from their talk page is denied unblock requests. Removing a warning is demonstrating that they have read it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:16, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
